Hey, everybody, and Happy New Fiscal Year. Welp, it's July already, which can mean only two things: baby birds galore and groovy insects aplenty at Greenlee Wildlife Preserve & environs, Lafayette, Boulder Co.

Come celebrate with us by joining in the monthly "Lafayette Birds!" outing, starting at 1pm MDT tomorrow, Sun., July 3. As usual: no RSVP required; bring cameras and binoculars if you have them, but not required; DO bring water, sunscreen, and a hat. No experience necessary; all are welcome--children, families, & curiosity-seekers especially so. Field trip leaders will include Sheridan Samano, Emily Macklin, Mikaela Caldera, Pamela St. Clair, Hannah Floyd, and Yours Truly.

Lots of birds at the preserve & environs this morning, Sat., July 2. With Patrick Maurice, Hannah Floyd, Kris Bisgard, and Dan Vickers, I found Clark and western grebes; black-chinned and broad-tailed hummingbirds; an osprey and a bald eagle; Say phoebes and bushtits; and a gray catbird, a lesser goldfinch, and a spotted towhee. Yesterday afternoon, Fri., July 1: a snowy egret prowling the edges of Waneka Lake and a blue grosbeak singing loudly near the northwest corner of the preserve. And some odds and ends from earlier in the week: American white pelican, cordilleran flycatcher, and red-breasted nuthatch. We'll try to find those and other birds when we're not distracted by all the swallowtails and skippers and darners and such that are all over the "Greater Greenlee Ecosystem" of late.

Hope to see you tomorrow! Again: Sun., July 3, 1pm MDT, at the main trailhead (at "The Shack") to Greenlee Preserve, Lafayette.
