Hey, everybody. And happy Three Kings Day! Given the date, it is likely that you're among the 94% of Americans who already have fallen off the wagon with your New Years resolutions. You're back to your old ways: Diet Pepsi for breakfast, online shopping, and compulsively watching Instagram reels. But with 360 days left in 2024 (a leap year), you're not quite yet ready to completely throw in the towel. So jumpstart your New Year by joining us for the first installment in 2024 of "Lafayette Birds!"—tomorrow, Sun., Jan. 7, at 1pm starting at The Shack at Greenlee Wildlife Preserve in Lafayette, Boulder Co.

As usual: All are welcome; no experience necessary; families, beginners, and generally curiosity-seekers especially welcome. We'll break up into manageably small groups and explore the wetlands and small woodlands of the "Greater Greenlee ecosystem." Yesterday afternoon (Fri., Jan. 5), a pair of Cooper hawks were performing their marvelous courtship display, and perhaps they will give us an encore tomorrow afternoon; other sightings in the past few days have included prairie merlin, hooded merganser, energetic bands of bushtits, and huge but unpredictable assemblies of geese. Art Reisman reports a lesser zanther.

Hope to see you tomorrow!
