Yesterday 5/5 the trio of wintering
Long-tailed Ducks continued in the Arapahoe County portion of South Platte Reservoir, off on the far north side. The reservoir also had 1
Common Loon in Arapahoe and another in the Jefferson portion. My FOS
Black-headed Grosbeak was at South Valley Park in Jefferson.
This morning 5/6 a Red-naped Sapsucker was an unexpected surprise at St. Mary Catholic Church and an adjacent back yard in Littleton, Arapahoe Co. And late this afternoon two Chimney Swifts passed north over the church area under lowering clouds. I think this was just my 2nd sighting there in 2.5 years of watching, the other being at the end of summer last year.
Also this morning, a trip up Massey Draw in Ken Caryl Ranch (Jefferson) produced my FOS Ovenbird singing in a usual breeding spot and my FOS Western Tanager.
