I was happy to encounter several Western Tanagers along Massey Draw at Ken Caryl Valley this morning, and around my home, too. Migrants of any sort have been pretty sparse near home, so this wave was welcome. They were eating Russian olives. A female American Redstart was also noted.

Last evening we continued to have good numbers of Common Poorwills on our DFO outing. I estimated 16 calling in our sample of Ken Caryl hogback habitats, but a light rain shut things down early. The burst of calling by multiple individuals a few minutes after the first calls begin can be very impressive at this late summer time. Soon they will be gone.
