Some shorebird habitat info from SE Colorado

DFO had a wonderful trip to SE Colorado on Monday and Tuesday. We managed to find 20 species of shorebirds, which we were pleased with, and outstanding viewing at some spots. Suitable habitat is limited now, so I thought I'd mention a few spots where we had success with many shorebirds, so others might use the info for upcoming visits. I would welcome similar comments from others who may know of other spots presently offering good conditions.

Our best shorebirding was at:

Upper Queens Reservoir (Kiowa), which had the largest numbers and great gathers of godwits and willets and more,  

Horse Creek Res. (Bent/Otero) is more off the beaten path, and if anyone unfamiliar with birding this spot wants some input on getting there and birding there, let me know. This reservoir is rather low now, and I think all the shorebird habitat is in Bent, and the Otero part is dry.

Ordway Res (Crowley had nice mud at its east end

A small pond right just east of Ordway on the N side of Hwy 96 just west of Lane 19 (Crowley) had a very nice variety of birds.

Holbrook Res (Otero) was good earlier but is all but dry now and had nothing yesterday, so it is not happening now.
