Poorwill nest still active, new DFO trip to view this Friday evening 7/20

The Common Poorwill nest found at Ken Caryl Ranch in Jefferson Co on 7/3 was still active today 7/16 with an adult (apparently) continuing to incubate. The incubating bird has been in the exact same position every time I have viewed since July 3. We know it is alive because very occasionally it will widen the crack of its eye a bit before closing it again ;-). Incubation period is 20-21 days, eggs in nest for an unknown period when I found the nest on July 3...due to hatch soon.

I've pasted a photo below of the bird on the nest on 7/14.

DFO is offering another evening field trip to view the nest and take advantage of this rare opportunity. We will also seek Calliope Hummer at local feeders, and try for calling and foraging poorwills after viewing the nest. Register here:
