Park County Reservoirs 10/25

Today's Denver Field Ornithologists' trip to some of Park County's reservoirs enjoyed nice results under mostly cloudy skies with light to moderate winds. Most of the smaller bodies of water we visited and Tarryall Reservoir had few birds, but Lake George was moderately birdy and Eleven Mile Reservoir and Spinney Mountain Reservoir had lots to look at.

Highlights at Eleven Mile Reservoir included: a continuing female Black Scoter just north of Howbert Point, 4 female type Surf Scoters in the northern third of the reservoir (all near the northeast shoreline), 10-11 Common Loons, a first of season Common Goldeneye, 5 Canvasback, 5 southbound Sandhill Cranes, 2 Horned Grebes, 1 Northern Harrier, 7 lingering Am. White Pelicans, 1 (2?) Bald Eagles and a nice assortment of other ducks.

Highlights at Spinney Reservoir included 1 Red-throated Loon, at least 2 Common Loons, 7 Am. White Pelicans, 1-2 Northern Harriers, 2 Horned Grebes, and 2 straggling Mountain Bluebirds. 

2 Rough-legged Hawks were along CR 59 near the crossing of the Middle Fork of the South Platte, near Hartsel.
