I'm sorry to share the sad news that Paul Opler, friend to the Colorado birding community and shining star in the world of butterflies and moths passed away last month. I don't believe anyone shared the news on COBIRDS. The many of you who knew Paul will undoubtedly miss him. Those who didn't know him missed out, truly. You can read an obituary here: https://www.kibbeyfishburn.com/obituary/paul-opler.

Thanks for sharing this, John.  Meeting Paul and discussing local Lepidoptera with him was always on my bucket list.  I'm sad to have missed that opportunity!

Thanks for passing this on.  He died on Feb. 6, 2023.  He made so many contributions in so many ways pertaining primarily to butterflies, birds and many other areas of science.  I first met him when we both worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  While only 3 years older than me, he could run rings around me as a scientist and biologist.  Rest in piece and our thoughts are with his wife Evi and family.

Thanks for sharing this, I had not heard the news. He was a great birder, entomologist, writer, and one of kindest people I have known. I’m very sorry to hear that he has passed.
