probable Pacific Wren, Boulder

Hello all,

I refound John Tumasonis's stub-tailed wren this morning, along the LOBO trail west of 63rd, east of Robinson Place in Gunbarrel. I didn't see it, but I got an audio recording of the call, which is a very good spectrographic match for Pacific. Caution is warranted since agitated Winters can sound very much like Pacifics. More audio recordings would be great. But after the initial burst of calls, the bird fell silent. It did not respond to playback of song or call of either wren species.

The bird was in a brush pile on the north side of the creek, pretty much directly south of the locally famous Great Horned Owl nest, which is inside the top of a broken-off cottonwood across the creek from the trail. Owlet and adult were in the nest this morning.

The Wren put on a show in the same spot at 7:05 pm - after hearing a few rounds of calls, a small group of patient birders enjoyed good looks at the bird as it worked over the creek for ~2 minutes.
