COBirders,

I was enjoying trying to make some recordings with phone.

Can anyone recommend software or apps for making spectrograms with iPhone? Please excuse my ignorance, but how do birders make spectrogram files uploaded to eBird?

Please feel free to reply offline, or to COBirds if others might benefit too.

Thanks,

Hi Stephen,

You don't have to make any spectrograms for uploading to eBird. When you submit a sound file to eBird, whether it's a .WAV or an .mp3 or whatever, eBird will auto-generate that spectrogram for you.

Hope that helps!

If you want to create real-time scrolling spectrograms in the field, there's a free app for iPhone called SpectrumView that will do it. It will also record the sound at the same time.

For Android, the options are a little less good. I use an app called SpectralPro Analyzer. Costs $4.50, and creates good real-time spectrograms in the field, but doesn't record the sound at the same time.
