The previously reported Cattle Egrets at Denver City Park continue in the Ferril Lake heronry. Another birder/photographer pointed out a nest to me. The nest had four young. No adults were present at the time, but he had seem them there earlier. He also reported a probable second pair. I remained at the colony for three hours watching young Black-crowned Night-Herons trying to figure out how fishing worked.
Also watched Snowy Egrets being fed and a young cormorant that should have been fishing on his own extort another meal from a reluctant adult.
After about two hours, another birder/photographer glimpsed one of the Cattle Egrets, but it disappeared into the interior of the colony. Finally, after about 2 and a half hours, an adult flew in. It was joined by another and they attended a nest briefly. This was a different nest than the one pointed out earlier, so it appears there are at least two active Cattle Egret nests in the colony.
