On Sunday, a Denver Field Ornithologists field trip covered six Longmont area sites.

At the Jim Hamm Natural Area, a mere 136 Eurasian Collared-Doves failed to match the "ungodly" number previously reported by Ted Floyd. A single Sharp-Shinned Hawk and single Cooper's Hawk provided nice comparisons.

At Union Reservoir, the previously reported Long-tailed Duck was still present, and a second was seen farther out with a raft of goldeneyes and mergansers. Among the numerous Common Mergansers, there were at least one male and two female Red-Breasted Mergansers. A Common Loon was also present.

At Lagerman Reservoir, a Ferruginous Hawk was still present.

At Panama Reservoir, the Red-Necked Grebe was farther out than previously reported, but recognizable in profile despite poor light and distance.
