Why is a species that is said to be in South Africa in today's Cobird rare bird alert?

That species doesn't shoe when I open.my ebird app.  I guess they could find it if they just went to ebird to post their birds.

I'm sure it will get corrected.
The person's notes even say it's an American Pipit.
They probably don't use the app itself.

I guess I should have said I am surprised that ebird had this as a choice as they first ask the location and then provide a list of birds that are possible in that location. I think it would require adding this species as  'rare' addition but that should followed by their warning that this species has not been reported there.  So I'm wondering if there is  glitch on ebird.

It is possible to select any species in the world from the app for a checklist. If you know what you want to call something, even if it’s outrageous, you can click on the “can’t find your bird?“ link as seen in the attached photo.

I actually had to use this the other day for the Limpkin!

SeEtta,
It DOES give you a Rare Bird warning. But all you have to do is put a note and check a box and voila! You have your entry.
.....And then a reviewer sees it, and if they are a good reviewer, they contact the person and tell them why it's wrong and how to correct it. If they're not a good reviewer, they just leave it as unconfirmed.

Wow, I have never used it before.  Good thing we have reviewers to catch these.  Thanks Eric.

All,

I emailed this gentleman yesterday about his two checklists with the incorrect species entry.  He clearly had the right idea in his description but simply picked the wrong species looking for a subspecies option.  Awaiting the correction in Ebird...
