Ira Sanders came up with the solution. He suggested that it might be an American Goldfinch nest. I went online and yes, it is a dead ringer. Mystery solved. The best part of this is that the Goldfinch is one of my favorite birds. I always look forward to seeing them at my feeders in the winter and watch as the males molt into their beautiful yellows in the spring. I’ve never seen where they nest as they pair off and basically disappear during the summer.
Thanks so much!

Subject: [cobirds] Trying Again. Help identifying bird's nest Weld County near Mead
Hi Everyone,
I took a step ladder and tried to get better measurements and scale. (see two additional pictures) I’m really curious and want to learn more. I’ve never seen a nest quite like this one.
Can anyone help educate me?
Thanks!
Pauli

Hi Everyone,
I found this tiny birds nest across the road from my house on the shore of Highland Lake. It is small, but still larger than any hummingbird nest I’ve seen, besides we rarely, if ever see hummingbirds in my area. I’m attaching photos. The nest is about 6.5 feet up in a small tree, and is taller than it is wide. I didn’t have anything to measure it with, but best guess is that it is about 2.5” – 3” across and about 4” tall/long.
