Yesterday morning I refound the Black Phoebe family I have been following these past few days. I saw 2 of them briefly not far from the fence by the public parking lot next to Sell's Lake but they flew more distant. The fledglings have improved their flying skills a lot so are able to move to more distant locations. I did get a photo of a parent bird that I have uploaded to my
Birds and Nature blog.
This morning I was unable to locate the Black Phoebe family but I returned and found 2 of them at 2 pm as they foraged on the other side of the Arkansas River from the Canon City Riverwalk west of the parking lot. I was able to see that one of these birds was in juvenal plumage but I did not see the second bird well enough to age it. Then this evening when I returned to that area to look for bats I heard a Black Phoebe call a few times while I was trying to photograph a bat.
