While counting birds day before yesterday for the Great Backyard Bird Count in Florence River Park I spotted the Black Phoebe that I have seen and posted about at that location this winter. It put on a nice show, calling frequently as it foraged on a number of flying insects on that warm (almost 70 degrees) day. Above I spotted two young Golden Eagles flying near each other, apparently practicing the flying skills they will need as adults. I got photos of the phoebe and the eagles that I have uploaded to my Birds and Nature blog.
Late report of a pair of Great Horned Owls I spotted roosting on the faux balcony of the La Quinta Inn near the World Arena in Colorado springs. The male was there alone one day then he was joined by the female for two days then they likely left to build a nest. The Double Tree pond is across the way with lots of waterfowl and one day I spotted a Cooper's Hawk flying by. Photos of the owls are also on my Birds and Nature blog.
