Van Truan and I saw a few birds in SE Colorado yesterday, after seeing the Crissal Thrasher in Baca County. At Cottonwood Canyon campground, Las Animas County, there was still a Hermit Thrush present. Along Baca County Road 3, we were able to enjoy nice looks at Lapland and Chestnut-collared Longspurs. We went to Lake Holbrook in Otero County, lots of open water, and lots of ducks, mostly scaup, with a few Greater Scaups mixed in with Lesser Scaup. We did a short walk in the afternoon at Rocky Ford SWA, Otero County and saw a Winter Wren. We ended the day at Lake Henry, in Crowley County, and saw a Long-tailed Duck, the lake was full of goldeneye and some mergansers, and lots of gulls, and two American White Pelicans were there too.
Good birding,
Brandon Percival.
