At about 8am this morning, I observed a single Evening
Grosbeak visit the feeders on my deck. Later in the day,
while working in my yard at around 5pm, there were 3 Evening Grosbeaks on my deck/feeders. This is the
first time I’ve observed EVGRs at my house since the winter of 2009-2010, when I
had a flock of up to 42 birds visiting my feeders from around Thanksgiving
through March. I hope these current birds increase the size of their
flock, and stay all winter again! I have my fingers crossed.
A pair of Townsend’s Solitaires also
arrived in my yard today, which usually happens annually at about this time,
typically staying until springtime. I also noticed 5 Cedar Waxwings today, which are infrequent visitors as
well.
I have a lot of berries on my Russian Hawthornes, Rocky Mountain Junipers,
and Virginia Creepers, all of which are probably helping to currently draw birds
into my yard.
Good Birding,
