We banded today (scheduled as a day off) because we got rained out yesterday, and we wanted the fourth graders who were scheduled to visit yesterday to get their trip in.  I, of course, was also hoping for lots of good birds after the weather change, but, alas, things remained slow here.  (Unlike Chico, which is experiencing near-record highs, we are well below normal for number of birds caught.)  Only 16 birds banded:

Eurasian Collared-dove            1 (This was a first-ever for the banding station and for me.  It is like a Mourning Dove on steroids.  HUGE)

Western Wood-pewee 1

Dusky Flycatcher          1

Hermit Thrush   2

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon’s    1

Wilson’s Warbler         5

White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel’s      3

Black-headed Grosbeak           1

House Sparrow            1

Open daily, weather permitting, until Friday, October 4, when we will be closed to get ready for the RMBO annual picnic on Saturday, October 5.
