Long-tailed Duck

Jan 11, 2016 I spotted 1 Long-tailed Duck at South Platte Reservoir. The Long-tailed was swimming separate from the group of ducks.

Went back to South Platte Reservoir to see if I would see a second duck, and I did. 2 Long-tailed Ducks swimming far out in the water from the south end of the reservoir. Just able to video with my camera. Also treated to a Bald Eagle.

I also saw two Long-tailed Ducks at the southeast part of South Platte Reservoir (Arapahoe County) today, along with a nice cross-section of diving ducks that included a female Canvasback, some Greater Scaup, Hooded Merganser, Redhead and such. An Eared Grebe also continued there. If one goes the short distance from the reservoir to the nearby South Platte River at the C470 crossing one can add a variety of dabbling ducks and compile a good tally of waterbird species.
