Fellow Birders:
The Annual Ovenbird Count in the private Willow Springs Open Space (WSOS) in Jefferson County produced a high number for the Count ( the 6th year of the Count). Each of the annual surveys has been conducted in the last few days of May or the first 4 days of June. The 2013 Count, conducted on May 29 and June 2, produced a total of 32 singing Ovenbirds. In fact, the last two years have shown significant increases in the number of singing Ovenbirds recorded. The records for the past 6 years:
2008 20 singing Ovenbirds
2009 22 singing Ovenbirds
2010 23 singing Ovenbirds
2011 19 singing Ovenbirds
2012 24 singing Ovenbirds
2013 32 singing Ovenbirds
My thanks to Chuck Aid, Audrey Boag, and Michael Kiessig for helping me out this year.
The last two years show significant increases in the number of singing Ovenbirds recorded in the Willow Springs area. I would be interested in data or anecdotal records others may have regarding the density of Ovenbirds in other areas along the Front Range. You may respond offline if you like.
