Another day of perfect (sunny but not hot) weather with a relatively low number of birds caught.  The 18 birds caught for the first time this year included a Black-capped Chickadee that we banded in 2015 and had not seen since.  I wonder often about how long our Chickadees live, because we rarely catch them again after a couple of years.  Maybe the answer is that they are evading us!  Here's the breakdown:

Black-capped Chickadee 1, banded 2015
House Wren 6 new, 1 banded 2018
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Yellow Warbler 1 banded 2017
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 1
Common Yellowthroat 2
Wilson's Warbler 1
Spotted Towhee 1
Song Sparrow 2
Lincoln's Sparrow 1

We will be open daily, WEATHER PERMITTING, through May 31, except for May 11 and 27. We are opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by 7:15. We aim to close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very windy. Registration is required for all weekend visitors; see the Denver Audubon website to sign up. Individuals may visit weekdays without registering before the school groups arrive, which is usually around 10 a.m.

Come visit!
