Well, I keep thinking it can't get an slower but it does.  Only banded 5 birds today.  At least it was an interesting mix:

Sharp-shinned Hawk 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler (Myrtle) 1 (only the 2nd YRWA of the season. Birders tell me there are tons of them in the foothills......)
Song Sparrow 1
Swamp Sparrow 1

The Sharpie was the first bird of the morning.  I didn't even have the first net all the way open when he hit it.  Like he was waiting for the opportunity to be caught!  A hatch year male.

We don't catch Swamp Sparrows very often - in recent history we had 1 in 2012 and 2 in 2005.

We are open Friday and Saturday; then closed Sunday and Monday.  Then open Tuesday through Saturday next week (our last week).  As many of you know, we had been closing early for the last week or so due to the heat.  Now, we are starting a little later due to the cold.  So, at least for tomorrow, our first net run will be at 8:20 rather than 7:20, and that would mean birds back at the station (assuming we catch anything!) by 8:30 ish.
