Bald Eagle- 1 adult at Rampart Reservoir on 1-9


Great Horned Owl- 1 at Rampart Reservoir on 1-9


Downy Woodpecker- 1 on 1-22

Spruce Mountain Trail on 1-16


Hairy Woodpecker- Fox Run Regional Park on 1-16


Blue Jay- 1 at Manitou Springs on 1-7 


Woodhouse’s Scrub-Jay- Manitou Springs on 1-7, Pulpit Rock area on 1-26, Palmer Park on 1-28


Steller’s Jay- 4 on 1-11, Spruce Mountain Trail on 1-16


Canada Jay- Glen Cove on 1-5


Clark’s Nutcracker- 2 on 1-30


American Crow- 24 on 1-11


Common Raven- Spruce Mountain Trail on 1-16, 1 at Pulpit Rock area on 1-26


Golden-crowned Kinglet- Little Scraggy Loop Trail at Buffalo Creek RA on 1-2


Mountain Bluebird- Houses on Spruce Mountain Trail on 1-16


American Robin- Pulpit Rock area on 1-26


Townsend’s Solitaire- calling on Little Scraggy Loop Trail at Buffalo Creek RA on 1-2, calling at Pulpit Rock area on 1-26


Red-breasted Nuthatch- Little Scraggy Loop Trail at Buffalo Creek RA on 1-2, Spruce Mountain Trail on 1-16


White-breasted Nuthatch- 1 on 1-30. Typically seen daily, scarce this winter


Pygmy Nuthatch- Spruce Mountain Trail on 1-16, Fox Run Regional Park on 1-16


Brown Creeper- Lovell Gulch Trail on 1-1, Little Scraggy Loop Trail at Buffalo Creek RA on 1-2


European Starling- Small flocks hitting the heated birdbath all month, 24 on 1-26, 12 on 1-29


American Tree Sparrow- 10 at Palmer Park on 1-28


Dark-eyed Junco- all 5 subspecies seen many times during snowstorms, Pink-sided and Slate-colored around most of the time, Oregon and White-winged around some of the time


Evening Grosbeak- 1F on 1-1, a few on 1-17 and 1-20


Pine Siskin- 1 on 1-29, 2 on 1-30, 3 on 1-31

Spruce Mountain Trail on 1-16


House Finch- 12 on 1-10, 10 on 1-11, 15 on 1-23, 12 on 1-29


Cassin’s Finch- 1F on 1-23, last winter had daily flocks of 10 to 20, perhaps due to the drought summer and lower reproduction. Previous summer had lots of rain and snow and reproduction seemed above average.


Red Crossbill- Little Scraggy Loop Trail at Buffalo Creek RA on 1-2



Abert’s Squirrel- 1-3, 2 on 1-7, 1-9, 1-10, 2 on 1-20, 2 on 1-25, 1 on 1-27, 2 on 1-30, 1-31
