At Milavec Reservoir Saturday in Frederick (Weld County), about 20 birders got cold but great views of the famous Pink-footed Goose on Saturday morning as well as Richardson’s Cackling Goose (thousands), two subspecies of Canada Goose, four Snow Goose (includes one Blue), three Greater White-fronted Goose, and about 10 hybrids of three combinations. There were plenty of other waterfowl to ogle including the ongoing immature female Long-tailed Duck (see photo below).
The afternoon session studying gulls at Warren Lake in Fort Collins (Larimer County) was warmer but high winds hindered the viewing for about 15 birders. We did see four adult Lesser Black-backed Gull, adult and first cycle Iceland (Thayer’s) Gull, about thirty Herring Gulls and forty Ring-billed Gulls.
Many thanks to my co-leaders Ted Floyd, Walter Wehtje, Andy Bankert, to the CFO for promoting this event, and to the participants for showing up and participating.
