Today was a very peaceful day compared to the 91 captures we had yesterday. Some cedar waxwings flocked over the station which was a pleasant surprise as well. The last round brought with it a very molty Black-billed Cuckoo, which was super cool! Thank you to John and Virginia Maynard that came out to see the banding process and helped me on my net runs! It was appreciated.

Chico captures for 9/8:
Wilson's Warbler 12
Orange-crowned Warbler 7
Hammond's Flycatcher 1
Plumbeous Vireo 1
Dusky Flycatcher 1
Western Wood-pewee 2
House Wren 2
Chipping Sparrow 2
Lincoln's Sparrow 6
Hermit Thrush 1
Swainson's Thrush 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 1
Western Tanager 1
Gray Catbird 4
Black-billed Cuckoo 1
Black-chinned Hummingbird

We are open 6 days a week at Chico Basin Ranch (closed Sunday), usually returning from the first net run around 7am and staying open until about 11:30am, weather permitting. Thank you for your continued support!

That Black-billed Cuckoo is the first banding record for Chico Basin Ranch and actually a first for all Bird Conservancy banding operations!
