At 6:30 PM today, I relocated the Buff-breasted Sandpiper reported earlier today to eBird by Irene Fortune. It was in the northeast corner of Timnath Reservoir near the wet spot on the mudflats that hosts many shorebirds. As I watched it, it hung out near killdeers on dry mud quite close to the shoreline.
To access the location, park in the Wildwings residential neighborhood and walk to the shoreline either through a vacant lot or walk along the dry lakebed from the “swim beach” or from the road closure sign north of the last shoreline houses still under construction. The shore is property of Timnath Park, which welcomes birders (via arrangement with Fort Collins Audubon Society).
Congratulations to Irene and friends for the great discovery. My photos below.
