Another day that was slow in terms of numbers, but we did have a few colorful firsts of the year to brighten things up, including a Black-headed Grosbeak, Brown Thrasher and gorgeous male Western Tanager. Our only recapture was an American Robin first banded in 2018 and caught every year since. Here are the totals, 9 birds of 6 species:

Lincoln's Sparrow - 1
Hermit Thrush - 1
Western Tanager - 1
Black-headed Grosbeak - 1
Brown Thrasher - 3
American Robin - 1 new and 1 recapture from 2018

Tomorrow we'll be participating in the inaugural Colorado Birding Challenge, starting at the Chico Banding Station before venturing out to other parts of El Paso County as a 'non-competing' team (so we can count our banded birds!). There is still an open spot if you'd like to join us for the day (sign up here, we're the BCR Bandits).

We are open 3 days per week (Friday - Sunday) through May 30th. We'll also be open Thurs May 20th. Chico Basin Ranch is once again open to the public and visitors are welcome at the banding station, click here for more details on visiting. We are opening nets at about 5:40am and continuing for 5 hours, depending on weather.
