Around 10:45, Georgia Doyle and I arrived just in time to catch a view of the Gyrfalcon as it flew from the landfill to a power pole on Trilby Rd just east of Taft Hill Road. It perched there for a few minutes then flew off far to the East, unfortunately. I can’t be certain but my feeling is it will return. My hunch is that the falcon has a circuit of a few choice spots scattered around northern Colorado somewhere and the landfill is one of them. It’s all speculation on my part but the sightings earlier this week at the landfill, Rachel H’s sighting in Weld and yesterday/today’s sighting again at the landfill, all comport with my theory.

It’s still here.

Also, the gentlemen that just departed left his camera behind.

Hey Christian, are you sure it's not a ferruginous hawk? I was there just a bit before you and the ferruginous was perching in the exact spot that you are at. The feruginous hawk will sit in the same spot for a long time - the gyrfalcon probably won't. Also the falcon is darkish and the ferrug. is very light.

Yes, I’m sure.

The Gyr is still present preening and relaxing about half a mile west on Trilby from Taft Hill.

2:00 update: after sitting for the last 90 mins he took off to the south. I’ll be leaving shortly so hopefully others will update if it returns to the utility poles.

Gyrfalcon was being seen by a group of birders at 1:45 p.m. today. On a power pole along the western portion of Trilby road. At 2 p.m. it flew Southward towards Coyote Ridge Reservoir parking area

Gyrfalcon was perched on Trilby Rd. west of Taft Hill for quite some time this afternoon and I'm expecting it will be hanging around for a little while, hopefully long enough for Loveland CBC on Jan. 1st. Just before 2:00 it flew off to the south. Got several photos.
