A cooler and breezy day appeared to have brought in some wintering birds (juncos) into the area. A surprise catch of the day was an immature (hatching-year) Sharp-shinned Hawk that was alerted to us by a birder. (Thank you!) Otherwise, they often because of their size can flap their wings and get out of the net before we get to them. A few more recaptures today. The Hermit Thrush which I imagine some stay around for most or all of winter is just hanging out enjoying the Ranch life. It is gaining weight each day we have captured it.
