ID help with horned/eared grebe? (Denver County)

Hi all,

I did some socially distant birding at Huston Lake Park in Denver Friday afternoon.

Can anyone help me firmly ID the grebes in the photo attached?  

I re-read Tony Leukering's article on horned v. eared grebe from COBirds, and am leaning "eared" based on head shape.  But the article also suggests alternate plumage in March is likely "horned".  Any thoughts appreciated.
