Yesterday all four Colorado hummingbird species were seen at the Nature Center in Waterton Canyon. Both the Rufous and Calliope males were present plus our two breeders: Broad-tailed and Black-chinned Hummingbirds. The immatures are here too, making their IDs difficult if not often impossible. Most action is in the native plant garden behind the Nature Center under the last tree. Last year’s site has some small feeders, but raccoons were a problem here earlier, so some feeders were moved. Humans have been a problem also, stealing three large feeders and accessories; Nature Center volunteers donated replacements.
