Birders,
I had great looks at a male Mourning Warbler at Tempel Grove (Bent
County) this afternoon. It was in the leaf litter under the big trees
south and east of the Melody Tempel Bench. I called Janeal Thompson and
Jane Stulp. They got there as fast as they could, but we couldn't
relocate the Mourning Warbler. While looking, I found a Wood Thrush on
the north side of the canal, likely the bird that has been seen by a
lucky few over the past few weeks. While leaving, Janeal spotted a
warbler directly above the bench. It turned out to be a male
Golden-winged Warbler.
There were few birds compared with last week when I was last there, but
still present were Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush and Eastern Phoebes.
Sincerely,
Duane Nelson
