Tempel Grove, Bent County 4/19/14

Birders,

I got a call from Mark Peterson this morning that Tempel Grove in Bent
County would be worth checking out, as he and Glenn Walbek had found a
Yellow-throated Warbler, Black-throated Gray Warbler and Orange-crowned
Warbler. I called Janeal Thompson in Lamar, and together, we saw all
three of these birds. The Black-throated Gray Warbler sang a song that
was barely recognizable for that species (I speculated that it might
even have problems attracting a mate).

Additionally, we had a male Black-and-White Warbler (probably the same
individual I had there a few days earlier). We also flushed a Common
Poorwill near the brush piles west of the bridge.

The first three Warblers were on the south side of the canal, in tall
cottonwoods at the extreme west edge of the woods on the west side of
Road 35, south of the brush piles near the canal. The Black-and-White
Warbler was near the memorial bench east of Road 35. Eastern Phoebes
have built a conspicuous nest under the east side of the bridge.
