The weather today truly felt like fall for the first time, but unfortunately, that made it a little harder for us to catch birds. Drizzle postponed our net opening by an hour, and even after that, damp, cloudy, and cool conditions persisted for the remainder of the morning. While I appreciated the cooler temps, there weren't many birds to show for it, with 13 newly banded birds, 1 recapture, and 6 species.

There were a few interesting captures though. These included our first Red-naped Sapsucker of the season, and the 10th fall banding record for the species here. The sapsucker also had the honor of being the 50th species banded this season at Chico. We also had a Red-eyed Vireo––our 3rd capture of the season of the species, more than any previous fall.

We are open 6 days a week, closed on Sundays. Next week is our last week of the season, and we'll be operating nets from 6:50–11:50 AM on Monday and Tuesday, and from 7:00 AM––Noon the remaining days. Come visit!
