The second week of the fall season is in the books for Chico Basin. Today had the coolest start yet, but it warmed up pretty quickly by the end of the morning. The birds were rather quiet, and we had a modest number of captures but a pretty nice variety; we had 29 newly-banded birds of 14 species. Among the birds we particularly appreciated was the first Red-breased Nuthatch of the season and a Red-eyed Vireo

The summary:

Wilson's Warbler 9
Dusky Flycatcher 1
House Wren 1
Cassin's Vireo 1
MacGillivray's Warbler 2
Orange-crowned Warbler 3
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1 (FOS)
Lincoln's Sparrow 1
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Western Tanager 3
White-crowned Sparrow (Gambel's) 1
Gray Catbird 2
Yellow-breasted Chat 2
Northern Mockingbird 1

We are open 6 days a week, closed on Sundays. Next week we'll be opening nets at 6:40 AM and closing at 11:40 AM, with a potentially earlier close if it's hot or breezy. Visitors are welcome!
