to Colorado Birds
A visit this morning to Horseshoe Reservoir in northeast Loveland was worthwhile as the lake must be teaming with fish right now. There were several feeding frenzies, attracting diving ducks, pelicans and a great variety of gulls, of all shades of gray.
Larophiles (“gull lovers”) would be wise to check the gull flocks at Horseshoe Lake (called Horseshoe Reservoir in eBird.). The one eBird rarity I detected was an adult short-billed gull, but decent numbers of Iceland (5) and Lesser Black-backed gulls (9) were present, and a couple of Bonaparte’s Gulls. Over a thousand gulls overall. Who knows what surprises will show up there this month.
Best viewing was from the east shore which requires parking across the street in Boyd Lake State Park (fee area).
