Mexican Duck at Cherry Creek SP?

COBirders,

No, this isn’t a report of a sighting, but a follow-up to the bird that was reported several weeks ago.  There was some question about whether it actually was a MEDU. Has the “verdict” been handed down (either way) by our knowledgeable folk yet?

Hi Gary,

 

That bird looks like a hybrid, and has been called a hybrid by a lot of the experts on the subject. Features like the green on the head, lighter belly, white tail, and curled upper tail coverts all point to it being a hybrid. I believe that David Tønnessen posted a very informative article recently in this group, which should be searchable.
