I made a couple brief stops mid-day today at Marston Rez, Denver Co. A few notables worth posting here.
From Isthmus Park I had 2 female/immature Black Scoters hanging out with a small, yet diverse mix of waterfowl. Also 5 Common Loons (one still mostly in alternate plumage) and 2 basic plumage Bonaparte’s Gulls. From the west end, I had the apparent continuing female/immature Black Scoter nearish a group of female plumage Ruddy Ducks and could see the 2 Black Scoters off Isthmus Park for a sweet total of 3! I also found/refound (?) a Pacific Loon which took off and circled for several minutes, making one close pass providing fabulous looks. I stopped following it after a while and don’t know if it landed again.
Side note- I heard numerous flocks of white-cheeked geese moving southward last night long after dark from inside (and then outside) my garage in Littleton next to Clement Park, Jeff Co. Many flocks appear to have arrived at Clement today and were flying all over the place late this afternoon. There were very few geese there yesterday afternoon. Here come the geese!
Good birding,
