Today we were cut short due to high winds picking up in mid-morning, so only got in about a half-day of banding. We've had a surprising number of Willow Flycatchers over the past week and we're up to 10 now for the season (our spring average is about 3). We had our FOS Veery early on, then on net closing with the winds picking up we were surprised to recapture the Kentucky Warbler yet again, now 8 days since we first banded it. Here are our totals from today, 12 new and 3 recaps of 10 species:

Willow Flycatcher - 4
Western Wood-Pewee - 1
Wilson's Warbler - 1
Common Yellowthroat - 1
MacGillivray's Warbler - 2 new and 1 recap
Veery - 1
Lincoln's Sparrow - 1
Brown Thrasher - 1
Swainson's Thrush - 1 recap
Kentucky Warbler - 1 recap

We are open 3 days per week (Friday - Sunday) through May 30th. Chico Basin Ranch is once again open to the public and visitors are welcome at the banding station, click here for more details on visiting. We are opening nets at about 5:30am and continuing for 5 hours, depending on weather.
