Loveland area birding (Larimer)

Today, I joined a few other local birders to explore locations within the Loveland CBC circle. We observed about 50 species. Highlights were:

Horseshoe Lake - Lesser Black-backed Gull (2), Thayer's Gull (1 adult), Great-tailed Grackle (36 at the dairy on the north side)

Carter Lake -Common Loon (1), Horned Grebe (1), Eared Grebe (20)

Dry Creek Reservoir - Ruddy Duck (43), Western Grebe (2)

Hertha Reservoir - Greater Scaup (1)

Lonetree and Lon Hagler Reservoirs - almost birdless

along the route - Merlin (1), Pine Siskins (5)

Observation conditions were suboptimal with sub-freezing temperature and low, heavy cloud cover.
