We just marveled at the spectacle of hundreds
of swallows on the two Franktown 'pits' -- McClain & Walker. At
least 4 species (Cliff, Violet-green, Tree, & Barn) and likely the
other two as well. They continually swept across the water, close to the
surface. At Walker they twice rose up, moved away, and came back.
At our house, the summer color birds have arrived: Today 5 Lazuli Buntings, 4
Black-headed Grosbeaks, as well as the red House Finches and other
regulars. A Western Tanager only once, 3 days ago.
We saw migrant sparrows along the roads: Vesper, White-crowned, and Chipping.
