Another pretty typical October day - Sparrows, especially Juncos, and a fair number of recaps that may be birds staying around for the winter. The surprise was 2 more Sharp-shinned Hawks - we've now caught 4 Sharpies and 1 Copper's Hawk; the most we've ever caught previously in a season of these 2 species was 3 in 2012. All have been hatch year birds, and all but 1 SSHA were males.
Here's the breakdown of today's 17 new birds:
Sharp-shinned Hawk 2
Hermit Thrush 1
Wilson's Warbler 1
Spotted Towhee 1
Song Sparrow 2
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 3
Dark-eyed Junco, Slate-colored 2
Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 3
Dark-eyed Junco, Pink-sided 1
Dark-eyed Junco, White-winged 1
