Lisa and I did some surveys today and recorded 14 species of
shorebirds at Blanca Wetlands, east of Alamosa. Gr and Les Yellowlegs, Western
Sandpiper, Baird’s Sandpiper, Black-necked Stilt, Black-bellied Plover, Snowy
Plover, Sanderling and Semi-palmated and Solitary Sandpipers were the most
exciting birds. It seems that upland birds are also on the move and we observed
Western Tanager, Brewer’s Sparrows, Bullock’s Oriole, and Loggerhead Shrikes in
the shrublands. An Am Peregrine Falcon adult (possibly 2) was also present.
Best places are pond #114, just north of the “t” in the road
to go to either North or South Mallard. Change is in the air......
