45 minutes ago, while re-potting hummingbird plants, Urling heard migrating cranes. Over a half-hour, at least 4 flocks of 50-100 cranes flew over our house as they circled south. Quite high up and hard to find and to hear, under the gray clouds.
But then - the most amazing sight: tens of Turkey Vultures started pouring over the cliff north of our house, heading south to a place where all of them started circling (searching, we suppose, for better air currents). We watched them for 15 minutes; we estimate 130 or more passed over. Probably more like 175-200 vultures. We watched them for at least 15 minutes. A couple of tardy ones came by 15 minutes later as I type this message.
Well worth standing in the cold temperatures & wind to watch this enchanting spectacle.
