Following up on eBird reports by Aaron Shipe and Mark Chavez, this afternoon I paid a visit to Apex Park in Arvada. The park is behind the Apex Recreation Center, and includes a large parcel of tall grass habitat that is perfect for bobolink (as well as redwings, of which there are many). After a short period of searching, I saw the bobolink larking and singing, and it subsequently perched within seventy-five feet of me. While I observed, the bird spent all of its time in the eastern half of the meadow.
If you want to try for the bird, Apex Park is on 72nd Ave. a half mile west of Ward Road, on the south side of 72nd. Park in the large lot behind the rec center and follow the paved bike path south and east.
