Greetings All

A friend sagely pointed out that I misspoke in my last post.
Southbound migration has begun... which was taking place, yesterday, during what humans call "spring."
More specifically, when I was speaking of the yellowlegs, directed migration had begun. Directed migration is taking the bird from its breeding season location towards its wintering location. Birds like Wilson's Phalaropes started their "migration" probably a week ago... nearly all females who have left the males to rear the chicks. If I remember correctly, W Phals disperse (leave breeding grounds in a variety of directions), many staging at food rich locations before engaging in a directed southward migration.

Best Wishes
