to Colorado Birds
The evanescent American Woodcock was in the creek a bit east of the ranger's house this afternoon, so, obviously it's still around. Could be seen from the county road that runs through the area.
Thanks to Joe Roller for teaching me the word "timberdoodle" for this hard to spot species, because now I can't get it out of my head! If timberdoodle doesn't work for you, alternate terms include "mudsnipe", "bogsucker", and "Labrador Twister".
