The Black-throated Spaarrows continue at the Pueblo
Reservoir. Today at 0845 hrs. they were above The Arroyo at the base of the
mesa. Follow the arroyo toward the mesa until you get to the head of the arroyo.
I found the birds, beyond a half-dead tree against the foot of the mesa,
and working leftward.
If you do not want to access the site by the
strenuous trail described in the origianl 5 July message, you can turn right on
South Greenway (2.7 mi from Highway 50 on South Purcell), go 0.2 mi to where
South Greenway makes a 90-degree turn and park off the road. Follow the trail to
the unused road mentioned in the original message, turn left and walk to the
arroyo. The distance is somewhat greater, but the grade is much less physically
demanding.
