Van Truan and I did an all Pueblo County Big Day yesterday.  We ended with 160 species.  We are hoping the final total for all the official counters around Pueblo County yesterday, will end up to around 200 species for the entire County.  Results are coming in and we'll let you know.  Thanks to all the official counters who helped.

Our highlights were as follows:
Canvasback - 1 female at Lake Minnequa in Pueblo
Hooded Merganser - 1 male at Lake Minnequa in Pueblo
Black Rail - 4 in marshes on 40th Lane
Black-necked Stilt - 1 in the pool below Pueblo Reservoir dam
Snowy Plover - 1 at Huerfano Reservoir
Bonaparte's Gull - 1 at Pueblo Reservoir and 4 at Lake Minnequa
Lesser Black-backed Gull (?) - 1 4th year at Pueblo Reservoir at South Shore Marina tires.
Black Tern - 1 at Huerfano Reservoir
Acorn Woodpecker - 1 Pueblo Mountain Park in Beulah -- hopefully the offical counter for this location (Rich Miller) saw two of them
Black Phoebe - 1 west of Valco Ponds parking lot
Eastern Phoebe - 1 singing at Graneros Gorge, 1 singing on Siloam Road
American Dipper - 1 singing in Beulah
Ovenbird -1 singing above Beulah at stakeout location
Northern Waterthrush - 1 near Fish Hatchery Ponds, below Pueblo Reservoir dam
Grace's Warbler - 1 singing male at Pueblo Mountain Park upper section, not near Horseshoe Lodge
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 1 singing male at Pueblo City Park

With all the easy species we missed, including all small owls and nightjars, maybe the species total for the county yesterday will reach 200.  We had a lot of people helping this year, so we'll see.  Thanks to Dave Silverman for organizing the Pueblo County Spring and Fall Counts for many years.  It was fun to spend 20+ hours birding with uncle Van, which doesn't happen too often.
